Introduction to Dogs & Storks®

1 hour, usually free (no fee but RSVP required)

Our programs clears up myths, emphasizes realistic expectations, and gives expecting parents practical strategies to set the family and their dog up for success both before and after the baby arrives.

These presentations are designed to introduce the Dogs & Storks® program and our local Family Paws® educators and training services.
Family Paws Parent Educators work together with one another, local businesses, child care providers and health care providers to support families with dogs to prepare for life with babies and toddlers.

Dogs & Storks®

2 ½ hours   $50 per couple
Locations and times vary – see calendar section or contact us to set up a session in your facility or for your small group.
5 couples (10 attendees) minimum for your small group session.
No dogs in these sessions, please.

This program is designed for families with dogs to prepare for life with baby. We offer positive, practical and fun solutions to help you include your dog once baby arrives. This program is designed to help ease families into the transition from having a pet to parenting with a pet.

What we cover:
Tips to begin preparing with your family dog for life with baby

  • Must-know information for expecting parents with dogs
  • Practical solutions, you can have fun while your dog learns!
  • Education on dog body language to enhance your bond and set you up for success
  • Preparation for proactive strategies
  • Ongoing support through your baby’s first years

NOTE: group workshops offer a general overview of the information, but do not offer hands-on training with your dog(s) or specifics for your home situation.. These sessions are designed as educational presentations only

Newly crawling and newly walking babies often make dogs anxious.
We can help you connect the dots between your child’s developmental milestones and dog behavior to promote safe interactions.

Dog & Baby ConnectionDogs & Toddlers™ is for families with dogs and babies who are soon to be crawling or walking. The first few months after baby’s arrival may have gone smoothly and many families are caught off guard when their dog begins to show discomfort with their ever more mobile baby.

This program offers insight and proactive strategies for some of the common challenges families face during his period of quick changes in their child’s development and how to manage and support their dog during this period.

What we cover:

  • Dog and toddler dynamics: what stages may be worrisome for your dog (and why) and how to problem solve to address these.
  • Must-know information for parents who have babies soon to be crawling or walking.
  • Information about common trouble spots between toddlers and dogs.
  • Practical solutions, from activities to include your dog to daily routines and management.
  • Insight into how your changing family dynamics may affect your dog.

Preparing Your Dog for Baby: a special one and one half hour class for you AND your dog.

1 ½ hours   $60 per dog

Application and pre-payment required.
Cost for this special class is $60 per dog to attend, 2 adult handlers
(16 years and older) per dog may attend.
No children in this class please.
